Tutoring Services - The Learning Commons

The Math & Science Center and The Writing Center

Math & Science Center

The Math & Science Center  provides free tutoring in Math, Life Sciences, and Macro/Micro Economics.  Students may drop in for support, encouragement, or more in-depth individual tutoring. Hours vary slightly week-to-week. Students first schedule any tutoring sessions (whether for online Zoom videoconferencing or in-person) in Appointment Plus https://bit.ly/CMCCtutoring Simply create an Appointment Plus account and then pick the course, day, time, and tutor you need.  Questions or requests for additional tutoring hours may be sent to Diane Hamel at MathScienceCenter@cmcc.edu

Online Math & Science Tutoring with Zoom  We have online options available for tutoring!  How does it work?  First, schedule your Zoom videoconferencing tutoring through Appointment Plus. https://bit.ly/CMCCtutoring Next, you will receive a notice in your CMCC email with a web link which connects you to your Zoom videoconference.   No special software is required for Zoom; just an internet connection.  Online tutoring is available to any CMCC students, however online tutoring is not available for MAT 030 & MAT 050 (Please come in and visit us for these classes)

For more information email the Math & Science Center at MathScienceCenter@cmcc.edu.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center   Provides help with all phases of the writing process such as; organization, revision, grammar, and MLA/APA documentation styles. All CMCC students can receive free tutoring from the Writing Center.  We offer three ways to get in touch with a tutor. In-person (face to face), via email correspondence in CMConnect (Online Writing Center), and online webinar-style tutoring using ZOOM (Virtual Writing Center).

To receive any tutoring (whether in-person or via Zoom), first book an appointment through Appointment Plus https://bit.ly/CMCCtutoring. You'll create an Appointment Plus account and then pick the course you need tutoring for, the day, time and tutor you need.  For face to face tutoring, simply arrive at your scheduled time to the Learning Commons.

The Virtual Writing Center If you scheduled a Zoom webinar-style tutoring with the Virtual Writing Center, you will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link you will use to connect to the session.

Online Writing Center If you wish to use the Online Writing Center to email your draft to a tutor via CMConnect, go to your courses in CMConnect and and select the Online Writing Center course.  Upload your paper using the forums portlet.  The Online Writing Center tutor will respond via email within two (2) business days.

What is Zoom?  This new service is open to students in any class at CMCC, on campus or on-line. Students don't need any apps or special software since the Zoom connection is through a web address. You will need a computer with a camera and audio, most laptops have that.  The Zoom Tutor will show students how to upload their paper (from a file) once they've logged into the meeting.  Please note that Zoom is not available in the summer
