Articles in Databases & Journals

Journal articles are bundled together and sold as online subscription packages through vendors like EBSCO and ProQuest.  Similar to watching movies through video streaming services like HULU and Apple+. You should search multiple databases when doing research.  Journals are still published in print format and CMCC has four print nursing subscriptions.

OWL Writing Lab and APA Style websites
  • Purdue Online Writing Lab - APA Help The OWL at Purdue is a fantastic site that covers everything related to APA style and formatting
  • APA Style site  https://apastyle.apa.org is the definitive source for your APA formatting questions.  The Sample paper templates by paper type are available as downloadable word templates.
Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
  • Digital object identifiers are used to identify content and provide a web link to the journal article.  If DOI's are included with your journal article, you should include them as its web address.  For example:   http://doi.org/10.1186/1471-2288-12-114
  • URLs are only included if the article is found in databases with original, proprietary content and works of limited circulation (like Up to Date or a Dissertation).  APA DOI and URL Flowchart
  • Database information in reference lists is seldom used, because readers have many ways to access articles, such as college library subscriptions through EBSCOhost and ProQuest. Further explanation: https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/database-information)
