ABOUT THE LISA GORMAN
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING CENTER

The Lisa Gorman English Language Learning Center offers FREE academic assistance to  English Language Learners to increase their English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The center's aim is to strengthen the CMCC community by breaking language and cultural barriers and celebrating all voices.  Tutors provide instructional support that helps to meet the individual learning needs of the students, whether that be on campus or online via Bookings! 

ABOUT SCHEDULING
 DROP IN OR MEET ONLINE

Students may drop in during open hours or schedule an appointment through Bookings. Schedule appointments in MS Office Teams. https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/CMELLCenter@cmcc.edu/bookings/ Then pick either an "In Person" or "Online" course. Pick your day, time, tutor and add your contact information.  Be sure to use your CM Connect email address. You will receive an email with a link if you selected "Online".

Amy is an adjunct instructor at CMCC and her favorite job *ever* is teaching! Coming from corporate America she is happy to be working in education.  Amy currently teaches Interpersonal Communication.  Ask her about her difficult, but loveable dog Jeffrey.

Karen Knox

Karen Knox

ELL Coordinator at CMCC

Karen loves tutoring and teaching. Karen is the Coordinator of the ELL Language Center and she teaches ELL classes at CMCC.  She taught adults for the Hope House English Language Program and at Casco Bay High School, and she tutored multilingual students.  Karen was a Title One and Reading Recovery teacher.  She holds a Graduate Certificate in TESOL, a MS in Literacy Education, and a BS in Applied Technical Education, and an AA of Culinary Arts.

Student Success Stories 

Mahad Moussa

Mahad Moussa is originally from Djibouti.  He is 28 years old and moved to the US in 2016.  He lives in Lewiston with his brother and helps take care of his mom who had a kidney replacement.  He graduated from the Auto Mechanics program in May of 2024.  

He recently started working at the Honda dealership as a technician and plans to gain experience there before working his way up towards a master technician. He hopes to one day own his own garage. He was very thankful for all of our help and support through his classes here.
